Ken’ulh K’it Yikh Housing

37 new affordable homes for Indigenous Elders, families, and individuals

The name Ken’ulh K’it Yikh, meaning “Wetland Housing,” was selected by the Wet’suwet’en Group to pay tribute to the traditional Cas Yikh Territory territory where the building stands in what is now known as Smithers.

Designed to support traditional, multi-generational living for indigenous families, elders, and individuals, it will feature 37 units including three 4-bedroom suites, kitchen facilities and extra storage for cultural items. The building will be adorned in Indigenous art and have access to a culturally inspired playground, an emergency backup generator and two elevators.

LDM oversaw the development management and construction claims management for the project, and supported the society to secure funding under BC Housing’s Indigenous Housing Fund. The project will be completed in Fall 2026.
