Lu’ma Affordable Housing Project in Castlegar

Community Focused Homes for Indigenous Peoples

Lu’ma Affordable Housing Project is a community focused affordable housing development located on the traditional territory of the Ktunaxa Nation, Sinixt Nation, and Syilx Peoples, in what is now known as Castlegar, British Columbia. Currently under construction, the project is transforming the former Pioneer Arena site into much needed Indigenous housing that delivers long-term community benefit and fulfills a distinct community need for Indigenous housing.

The development will provide 78 affordable homes, along with interior amenity spaces and service areas designed to support a diverse range of residents, including youth at risk, post-secondary students, seniors and Elders, Indigenous Peoples, lower income individuals and families, and those in need of emergency shelter or culturally safe housing. In response to pressing local housing needs, the project prioritizes resident wellness, safety, and opportunities for connection, strengthening community stability and supporting long-term wellbeing in Castlegar.
