Conayt Affordable Housing

Affordable Homes for Indigenous Elders, Singles, and Young Families

Conayt Affordable Housing will replace existing townhomes on the site, owned by the Society, and will significantly increase the number of affordable homes available at this location. The project is aimed at housing Indigenous Elders, singles, and young families and will contribute to meeting the great need for affordable housing in Merritt.

The new 5-storey building consists of a mix of 15 one-bedroom, 25 two-bedroom, and 10 three-bedroom units for a total of 50 affordable homes. The project will feature a prominent entry sculpture to express culture, identity, and belonging, a curated collection of interior and exterior artworks created in collaboration with local Indigenous artists, a community room and shared indoor and outdoor gathering spaces, and an Elders Room that all support gathering, connection, and everyday life.

These elements are intended to ground the building in place, reflect community stories, and ensure culture is visible, celebrated, and experienced throughout the site, reinforcing Conayt Friendship Society’s long‑standing role as a community hub in the area.
