Dze L K’ant Housing Society ‘s Houston Housing project will deliver 41 units of culturally safe, affordable housing for low-income Indigenous families, Elders, and individuals living off reserve. Situated adjacent to the Dze L K’ant Friendship Centre’s new childcare facility and within walking distance of the existing Friendship Centre and downtown amenities, the development supports access to wraparound services and community connections.
The building will include a mix of studio, one-, two-, three-, and four-bedroom units designed to accommodate families, intergenerational households, and individuals, with several accessible and adaptable homes. Amenities include a community gathering space with kitchen facilities, on-site parking, a culturally inspired children’s play area designed by Wet’suwet’en artist Stephanie Anderson, and dedicated tenant support services available during business hours. The design incorporates Indigenous art and reflects the cultural values of the community. Stephanie Anderson has been re-engaged by the housing society to design a mural for the front entrance of the building and an interior mural in the building's amenity room.
LDM has supported the Society through feasibility and is overseeing development and construction claims for the project.
