Ch'íyáqtel Affordable Family Housing
23 new on-reserve family homes for Ch'íyáqtel First Nation
This project delivers new affordable rental homes for Nation members, supporting their return to reserve lands and participation in community life. The project was completed on time and on budget by LDM in partnership with Mierau Contractors and Ch’íyáqtel Members. It also marked the Nation’s first asset management plan, developed collaboratively during construction.
Throughout construction, Ch’íyáqtel Housing and Operations staff visited the site bi-weekly to observe and document mechanical systems. This hands-on approach enabled them to draft a policy and operations manual in real time, as warranties and schedules were finalized.
LDM also supported the Nation in securing funding through successful grant applications. The project received funding from BCH CHF, ISC, CMHC Seed, and the First Nations Finance Authority—marking the first housing project in BC to receive Indigenous financing through the FNFA.
LAND
Located on Ch’íyáqtel Nation lands on-reserve within the traditional territory of the Ts'elxwéyeqw Tribes in what is now known as the Upper Fraser Valley region near Chilliwack, BC.
PEOPLE
TARGET POPULATION: Identifying a need to build affordable housing on their lands to provide more opportunities for Nation members to return to live on-reserve and participate in community life, this project provides rental homes for band members with moderate and low incomes.

LDM supported the Nation to secure operational and capital funding.
FUNDERS: BC Housing’s Community Housing Fund, CMHC’s Seed Fund, Indigenous Services Canada, and First Nations Finance Authority (this was the first housing project in BC to receive Indigenous financing through the FNFA)
